(Tip: Print the pattern on cardstock for easier tracing!)
First things first—download and print the PDF bow pattern. Cut out the pattern pieces carefully. You’ll typically have three parts:
Lay your leather piece flat on your work surface. Use a pencil or chalk to trace around each pattern piece onto the smooth side of the leather.
Pro Tip: Use binder clips to hold your pattern in place while tracing.
Using sharp scissors or a rotary cutter, carefully cut out the leather pieces. Precision is key here—clean edges make your bow look more professional!

Take the bow loop piece and bring both ends to the center, forming two loops. Secure the ends in place with a dot of strong glue or by punching a hole and attaching with a rivet.
Place your bow loops on top of the bow tails piece, lining them up in the center. Secure them together with glue or a rivet.
Take the center strip piece and wrap it around the middle of your bow where the loops and tails meet. Pull it snug but not too tight. Secure the end with glue on the backside.
Optional: Punch a small hole at the top corner of the bow tails to attach the key ring directly.
Use pliers to open a jump ring (if you’re using one) and slide it through the strap bow. Then, attach your key ring or keychain hardware.
If you used glue, allow it to dry completely according to the manufacturer’s instructions (usually about 24 hours for maximum strength).
Soft to medium-weight leather works great—like chrome-tanned leather, faux leather, or even recycled leather from an old bag or jacket!
Absolutely! If you have a leather needle and waxed thread, you can hand-stitch your bow for extra durability.
Check your local craft store, buy online, or upcycle leather from old items you no longer use.
Once you have your materials ready, you can finish this project in 20–30 minutes!
There you have it—a beautiful, handmade DIY Leather Bow Keychain that you can proudly show off! Whether you’re making one for yourself or as a thoughtful gift, this simple project is a great way to practice your leather crafting skills.
